OUTDOOR BURNING BAN - Updated 12/5/2008

To remain consistent with State regulations, Cobb County will lift the countywide ban on open burning from October 1, 2008 until the statewide burn ban goes back into effect on May 1, 2009. However, Cobb County Fire & Emergency Services will constantly monitor environmental and other conditions, and the lifting of the summer burn ban may be imposed again at any time if conditions dictate.

During this 7 month period, yard debris (defined as limbs, leaves, pine straw, etc.) may be burned provided all burning activities comply with criteria set forth below in the Official Code of Cobb County, Chapter 54.

>> Official Code of Cobb County - Chapter 54

A source of emergency water must still be maintained and readily available during permissible burning (i.e. water hose). However, this is for emergencies only: the outdoor watering ban remains in effect until further notice from governing authorities.

Additionally, the below listed locations are designated as burn ban areas due to documented medical restrictions experienced by citizens at or near these locations:

Cobb County Fire & Emergency Services is still enforcing a total ban on all outdoor burning within a 1,000 foot radius of above locations. (Click map to see area)

Residents with documented medical conditions may request a ban on outdoor burning within 1,000 feet of their residence. Requests must be in writing, accompanied by a signed letter from their attending physician on the physician’s letterhead (not on a prescription note).

Residents should be aware of all current wind, weather, and other ambient environmental conditions prior to initiating any outdoor burning. Current fire danger ratings, drought indices, and other conditions can be obtained at the web site for the Georgia Forestry Commission at: weather.gfc.state.ga.us/Maps.aspx
